§ 74-2. Duties of chief of police.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful to drive or operate any vehicle at a rate of speed greater than 25 miles per hour, unless signs or markings are in place indicating a greater or lesser permissible rate of speed.

    (b)

    Where signs or markings are in place indicating a greater or lesser permissible rate of speed than 25 miles per hour, it shall be unlawful to drive or operate any vehicle in violation of such signs or markings.

    (c)

    The speed limitations specified herein or indicated by proper signs shall not apply to police vehicles, fire engines or apparatus, and ambulances operated in emergencies and with due regard for safety, but no owner or operator of such vehicles shall be protected from the consequences of a reckless disregard for the safety of others.
